Experience & Activities

Piper Byzet graduated from the College of Charleston, magna cum laude, in 2006. In 2011, she received her Juris Doctor from the Charleston School of Law and served as Editor in Chief of the Charleston Law Review. She was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2011.

From 2011-13, Byzet served as a law clerk to the Honorable P. Michael Duffy, Senior United States District Court Judge for the District of South Carolina, Charleston Division.

Upon the conclusion of her clerkship with Judge Duffy, Piper joined the Charleston office of Ogletree Deakins. Her practice focuses on all facets of employment law. Piper devoted her practice to employment litigation where she defends corporations and organizations in a variety of legal claims including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims. She also has experience reviewing and creating employee handbooks and policies and providing advice to employers regarding
litigation avoidance.

In addition, Piper provides advice and guidance to employers on reductions-in-force (“RIF”), including making defensible employee RIF selection decisions, analyzing proposed RIF decisions, and drafting enforceable releases and Older Worker Benefit Protection Act disclosures.
