Michelle Mensore Condon

Director of Externships / Director of Public Service and Pro Bono / Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law
Michelle Mensore Condon is the Director of Externships, Director of Public Service and Pro Bono, and a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law. In addition to teaching the Externship course, she teaches Lawyers and the Media, Contemporary Issues in Freedom of Speech and Press, and Privacy Law Seminar.

Experience & Activities

Before joining the Charleston School of Law in 2006, she was the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia’s first public information director for eight years. As public information director, she was a media spokesperson about West Virginia Supreme Court cases and statewide court system administrative issues. She also developed and organized educational outreach programs. Before joining the West Virginia Supreme Court, she practiced law for three years as a West Virginia assistant attorney general, where she concentrated on employment, health care, and constitutional law issues, and for two years in the litigation department of Jackson Kelly, PLLC in Charleston, WV where she practiced media law.

Condon also is an adjunct professor of media law for West Virginia University’s Master of Legal Studies Program and has taught media law at the College of Charleston. She has performed contract communications work for the National Center for State Courts and has taught continuing education courses for judges, lawyers, and career services professionals on media relations.

She graduated from Washington & Lee School of Law, where she was a notes and comments editor of the Washington & Lee Law Review. She earned her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame.

Condon is a member of the South Carolina and West Virginia state bars, the South Carolina Women Lawyer’s Association, and the Charleston County Bar Association. She also serves on the board of directors for South Carolina Legal Services, and formerly served on South Carolina Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission and the National Advisory Committee for Equal Justice Works.
