Professor of Law

I. Richard Gershon joined the Charleston School of Law as the Founding Dean in December of 2003. He served as dean of the law school until December of 2007. Under his leadership, the law school attained provisional approval from the American Bar Association. Before he came to Charleston, Gershon served as the dean of Texas Wesleyan Law School.

During Gershon's tenure as dean at Texas Wesleyan Law School, he helped lead the law school to full approval by the American Bar Association. The Alumni Leadership Award at Texas Wesleyan is named for him.

Gershon was also on the faculty at Stetson University School of Law from 1984-1998. He was the Academic Associate Dean at Stetson from 1988-1992.

In May of 2008, Gershon was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) by the Charleston School of Law.

Gershon is the author of several books, including A Students Guide to the Internal Revenue Code, which is now in its 5th edition. He has written numerous articles and monographs on taxation and legal education.
