Library Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I check out materials?
Check out materials at the Circulation Desk, on the first floor. You may also use your Sonitrol card at the self check out machine which is located adjacent to the Circulation Desk.
2. How long can I check out materials?
Materials from the general collection can be checked out for 3 weeks. Reserve materials circulate for 3 hours. Study Aids check out for 3 days. Multi-volume materials, loose leafs and materials with pocket parts do not circulate. Watch What Can I Check Out of the Library and How Long Can I Keep It, for the answer to your check-out questions.
3. Where are the copiers/printers?
The first floor copier/printer room is located at the rear of the library in Room 112. A Lexis printer is also located in Room 112. The second floor copier/printer is located in the hallway outside Rooms 212-220.
4. Who can assist with reference?
The Reference Desk is located in Room 121 on the first floor. Professionally trained librarians staff the desk. Several librarians have dual degrees, a J.D. and an M.L.S., while others have an M.L.S. They can help you locate the appropriate resources, design a search strategy or draft a search query. The phone number for the Reference Desk is 843-377-4020. 5. Can I eat and drink the library?
Drinks are allowed in the library. A rear kitchenette allows students to microwave meals and store refrigerated items. Please consume all meals in the Barrister area and help keep the kitchen area neat and clean.
6. What is the Barrister?
The Barrister provides bagels, chips, soda, coffee, and sandwiches for student purchase. Comfortable seating is also available.
7. Should I re-shelve my books?
Yes, please re-shelve materials.
8. Where are the bathrooms and water fountains?
Bathrooms are located at the rear of the library on both the first and second floors. Water fountains are located between the restrooms. Additional bathrooms are available on the first floor near the Circulation Desk.
9. Are study rooms available?
There are 14 study rooms available for group use by students. Reserve a room online, and stop by the Circulation Desk to pick up the key.
10. Where are reserve materials located?
Reserve materials and class reserves (textbooks for courses) are found on the first floor on the shelves next to the Circulation Desk.
11. Where can I locate help for IT questions?
IT staff are available during selected hours in the law library in Room 115. If no one is available, please see a librarian.
12. Can I use my cell phone in the library?
Please use cell phones in the Barrister area.
