Awards Day 2013, held April 11 at the Barrister, recognized outstanding achievements by the Charleston School of Law students, faculty and staff. Please join us in congratulating these well-deserving recipients.
Michael T. Schexnayder Award: Stephen J. Ryan
This award is given in memory of Michael Schexnayder, better known as Schex, a member of the Class of 2009. The award is presented to the third-year student who exemplifies loyalty to friends and family, compassion for the less fortunate, an appreciation and love of the outdoors, and a zest for living each day to the fullest. Stephen received a cash award in the amount of $500.
Alexander C. Bush Award: Stefan B. Feidler
The Alexander Bush Memorial Scholarship Fund acknowledges a rising 2L or 3L student at the Charleston School of Law who embodies the upstanding principles and genuine strength of character exemplified by Alex throughout his lifetime. Alex had a love for the arts, demonstrated an interest in criminal law, believed health and fitness led to a happy life, and had a passion for serving others and did so with kindness. Stefan received a cash award in the amount of $1000.
Michelle Robbins Award: Ryan C. Andrews
This award is given in memory of Michelle Robbins, a member of the Class of 2007 who died after an accident during her second year of law school. Ms. Robbins, a member of the Charleston Law Review, was committed to many causes and was a true Renaissance woman. This award is presented to the third-year student who best exemplifies a commitment and dedication to the Charleston School of Law, to public service and to academics. Ryan received a cash award in the amount of $1000.
ALI-CLE: Mary Abraham Lucas
The ALI-CLE Award is given to a student in the graduating class who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership, the qualities embodied by the American Law Institute since 1923.
NAWL: Cassie L. Hutchens
The National Association of Women Lawyers® award is given to the third-year law student who:
· Contributes to the advancement of women in society;
· Promotes issues and concerns of women in the legal profession;
· Exhibits motivation, tenacity and enthusiasm; and
· Demonstrates high academic achievement.
Charleston School of Law Judge Robert S. Carr Service Award: Nickisha M. Woodward
Presented for dedication, service and commitment to the Charleston School of Law.
Student Bar Association Senator of the Year: Ryan C. Andrews
Presented for commitment to the Student Bar Association and service to the students of the
Charleston School of Law.
Charleston School of Law Civility Award: Kate O. Hendricks
Presented to a Charleston School of Law Student who best exemplifies the high moral character and professionalism charged to all whom attend the Charleston School of Law.
Charleston School of Law Professor of the Year: Geiza Vargas-Vargas
Presented to a Charleston School of Law Professor who exudes superlative teaching ability, effectiveness inside the classroom, availability outside the classroom, and participation in student life.
Charleston School of Law Adjunct Professor of the Year: Andrew McLester
Presented to a Charleston School of Law Adjunct Professor who exudes superlative teaching ability, effectiveness inside the classroom, availability outside the classroom, and participation in student life.
