11/11/13: Trial Advocacy Board hosts internal competition, Smit and White win

On Sunday, Nov. 10, the Charleston School of Law Trial Advocacy Board hosted its annual internal trial competition. Fifty students competed and 90 more participated as volunteers. Preliminary rounds were held Thursday through Saturday with the competition concluding on Sunday afternoon with The Honorable Richard M. Gergel of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina presiding. The final round of competition included the team of Nicholas Smit and Jennifer White versus the team of Sam Frey and Andy Patterson. Smit and White emerged as the winners.
Individual Award Winners:
Best Opening Statement – Jennifer White
Best Direct Examination – Bill Daniel
Best Cross Examination - Daniel Cooper
Best Closing Argument – Jacob McFadden
Akim Anastopoulo Outstanding Advocate – Nicholas Smit
Founders’ Award for Ethics and Professionalism in Advocacy – Christina Tulloch
